Malaysia's East Coast Economic Region (ECER) has constructed a new training framework to develop human capital in the country.
Bernama reported that the new training programme has been designed specifically to increase job retention in an increasingly competitive marketplace, while at the same time developing skills that will help unemployed citizens back into work.
"This programme also fulfils the labour requirements needed by various sectors within ECER," said Datuk Jebasingam Issace John, chief executive officer of the ECER Development Council.
Sectors targeted in the study will include the oil and gas industry, manufacturing and agriculture.
He added that the training programme will be funded by the fiscal stimulus package introduced by the Malaysian government earlier this year.
Speaking to the Business Times earlier this month, Mr John announced that the ECER will also push ahead with the introduction of a new Special Economic Zone, in line with policies recently set down by the country's prime minister.
