The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has issued an update on the progress made since the introduction of the local content act earlier this year.
In a paper published in the Nigerian Compass, Ernest Nwapa, executive secretary of the NCDMB, said that one of the main aims of the organisation will be the development of a national database to measure localisation progress across all upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry.
He said that the database will provide a vital resource for assessing where localisation training is most needed and offer a standardised measurement to ensure that the local content legislation is enforced throughout the country.
The local content act aims to boost local participation in the Nigerian oil and gas industry through training and community outreach programmes, as well as offering Nigerian companies priority access to new exploration, production and transit contracts.
