Work to develop new technologies to boost oil recovery is set to take place following a new agreement between the Kuwait and Japan national oil companies.
Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for work on developing oil recovery technology, including a project for CO2-enhanced recovery.
Kuwait hopes to be able to capitalise on the use of carbon dioxide to boost oil recovery and believes that its close proximity to where carbon dioxide can be stored will help to keep costs down, the National reports.
Besides this, the two organisations are due to work together to strengthen technical cooperation in the upstream sector.
Education and training may also benefit from the new MOU, as mutual visits from technical experts and specialists are set to take place, the Global Arab Network news provider reports.
JOGMEC is hopeful that the new MOU with KPC will lead to invitations for more upstream partnerships, the National reports.
