A new gas discovery has been made in Egypt, it has been announced.
RWE Dea, an operator in the exploration and production of natural gas and crude oil sector, discovered that the South Sidi-Ghazy 1x-well found the Messinian formation to be gas bearing for a second time.
The find is situated on a seismic irregularity within the Upper Messinian succession of the Disouq concession.
Gas was found at the intervals of 2,747 metres to 2,771 metres.
The Disouq concession, a block that covers an onshore area of 5,375 sq km, was awarded to the oil and gas company in July 2004 .
RWE Dea has been actively working in the African country since 1974 and has produced oil in the Gulf of Suez for 25 years.
The firm runs a total of 15 onshore and offshore concessions in Egypt.
According to the Energy Information Administration, Egypt produced 664,000 barrels of oil per day in 2007.
