Nigerdock last month held a graduation ceremony for 40 oil and gas welders and fitters at the Nigerdock Training Centre at Snake Island Integrated Freezone.
The Nigerian company established the new training programme after securing funding from the Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association and the Industrial Training Fund.
Following the successful completion of the inaugural training programme, the organisation will continue to develop course modules to deliver tailored education relevant to the specific needs of the oil and gas industry.
The training programme provides a balance of both theoretical and practical course modules under the tutelage of specialist instructors, according to Vanguard.
Nigerdock was also recently selected by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Mobil Producing Nigeria joint venture to oversee all training requisite to the project.
In a bid to boost local participation in the oil and gas industry, the Nigerian government has passed new legislation which requires international oil firms working in the country to demonstrate a strong commitment to local training and development programmes.
