Nigeria is looking to bolster its oil and gas workforce after the federal government set a target of 70 per cent Nigerian content within the next two years.
The executive secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Alhaji Kabir Mohammed said that 2,600 skilled oil and gas workers were needed to fulfil the government's requirements.
He made his comments at the HYSYS Upstream, PIPENET and Flarenet training certificate presentation in Aluja, where he also noted that a skills gap survey had been undertaken in the country.
The PDTF is "dedicated for the purpose of development, promotion and implementation of petroleum technology and manpower" in Nigeria and looks to produce graduates, technicians, craftsmen and professionals in the industry.
It is part of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, which was formed in 1973, and is designed to develop the oil and gas sector in the African country and is also there to support those Nigerians looking abroad to enhance their skills.
