Nearly 100 Nigerians have been given certificates by Shell after graduating from one of the company's schemes, it has been revealed.
Shell Petroleum Development Company's media relations officer Joseph Obari told This Day, a Nigerian newspaper, that 96 students had received certificates from the Shell Special Intensive Programme (SITP) Scheme II.
He also said that six of the newly qualified technicians were female and that only four people had not graduated from the 100 that undertook the course that started in September last year.
Kenneth Anierobi, acting regional learning manager and SITP co-ordinator, told the publication that he was confident the graduates were capable of working in the industry having been trained by the scheme.
He said: "Since we started in 1998, we have trained a total of 1,034 people and we have recruited into Shell some 65 per cent of that number."
The scheme is divided into three different disciplines, including electrical, mechanical and instrumentation operations.
