The Scotland-based Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) has teamed up with Ghana University to offer students in the country a new e-learning course to prepare them for employment in the oil and gas industry.
Working with 20/20 Business Insight and goodpractice.net, the company will offer new training and development modules focusing on large-scale project management in the petrochemical sector.
If trials prove successful, it is expected that the oil training initiative will be rolled out across Africa in partnership with leading academic institutions.
John Holland, president of OGDC of Ellon, told Ghanaweb: "Because of local employment regulations we have recognised that there is a large skills gap in project management delivery which must be addressed.
"We are providing an innovative solution."
The company engenders a strong employee growth principle that is based on continual training and development and an entrepreneurial attitude to completing tasks.
In addition to its offices in the UK and Ghana, OGDC also operates in Brazil, Nigeria, Malaysia, China and the Middle East.
