Oil and gas transport workers in Bahrain are posing significant risks to themselves and the wider public due to a lack of driver training, according to Occidental Oman.
Addressing an audience in Manama yesterday (October 4th), Sadiq Al Lawati, the company's health, safety and environment vice-president, said that careless motorists are also putting their own safety at risk in areas such as Sakhir, a regional oil and gas infrastructure hub.
"Steps are now being taken in Bahrain and elsewhere on setting up mechanisms to curb these incidents, so that oil installations and vehicles are not damaged," he said.
Such steps are often inexpensive to implement, he added, explaining that driver awareness training sessions can have a huge impact on people's attitudes while behind the wheel.
Occidental has worked in Oman for more than 30 years and has two main fields of operation in the Safah and Mukhaizna fields.
