A broad approach to training and development has helped Occidental to capitalise on the recent spell of increased stability which has been witnessed in Colombia.

In a recent report, News Blaze notes that while Colombia has typically been a dangerous country to operate in, the period of relative peace brought about by the election of Alvaro Uribe has allowed Occidental to integrate with the local community through training and development schemes and funding programmes.

For its efforts, the group has recently been shortlisted for the 2008 Secretary of State's Awards for Corporate Excellence, which aim to highlight the vital work that US businesses carry out overseas.

In addition to providing agricultural training for local communities, Occidental has also promoted technical development of its own workforce through comprehensive oil training programmes, News Blaze has noted.

So too, Occidental has teamed up with UK-based International Alert, together aiming to further engender a sense of integration with local residents, businesses and trade unions.
