Oil Search has announced that the Papua New Guinea liquefied natural gas (PNG LNG) project has progressed quickly this year, with a number of milestones achieved including the construction of new training facilities.
In its second-quarter results released yesterday (July 27th), the company announced that site preparation near Port Moresby is progressing on schedule, while earthwork and installation of housing facilities at Kopi have also been completed.
Commenting on the progress made, Oil Search managing director Peter Botten said the PNG LNG project is already starting to deliver benefits to local residents, with hundreds of new jobs being created both directly and indirectly.
"The broad-based support the project is receiving from the government and the people of PNG is highly encouraging," he added.
The PNG LNG project will involve the development of gas fields in the country's southern highlands and the Western Province, with the gas being transported via pipeline for processing in Port Moresby.
