An export terminal in the Barents Sea has held tanker accident and oil spill management training.
International integrated training exercises have been held at the Varandey terminal in a venture run by RF EMERCOM and All-Russia Political Party United Russia, entitled Development of Security Systems to Implement Economic and Infrastructure Projects.
During the training an accident involving a shuttle tanker with the deadweight of 70,000 tons was simulated and participants worked to deal with the problem.
Communication between the state structures and relevant LUKOIL services was one of the primary focuses of the operation.
Anatoly Barkov, OAO LUKOIL vice-president, stated: "Our company attaches great importance to the environmental safety of its oil and gas facilities and, above all, of its offshore facilities, which operate in accordance with the zero discharge principle."
He added that the realistic nature of the exercises ensured sustainable environmental protection for the Varandey terminal.
