UK-based training services firm Opito has announced a major new study investigating safety and training standards in the global oil and gas industry.
In a statement this morning (September 20th), the company said the new study has been commissioned by the Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University, and is being undertaken in order to "improve and align safety and competence standards in the global oil and gas industry".
Announcing the study, Opito International chief executive David Doig said the investigation will allow the company to "understand the significance to companies of the development of international standards by which training may be bench-marked to assure capacity and competence are displayed by their workforce".
Earlier this year, Opito noted that the adoption of international safety and training standards will be particularly crucial in the Asia-Pacific region in years to come as it experiences unprecedented growth and development.
The group noted that the region is home to four of the world's five most energy-hungry nations.
