Petroleum College International (PCI) has witnessed interest in its rig simulation training modules increase considerably since the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).
Based in Victoria, Texas, PCI focuses on training and recertifying oil field workers in well control, and its full-size rig simulator is the only one in the state and one of only six in the nation.
Speaking to the Victoria Advocate, Tom Elliott, vice-president of Southern operations for the school, said that it is vital that oilfield workers continue in training throughout their career, as complacency can have catastrophic consequences.
"We work with guys who have been doing this for years and guys just starting out," he added.
In addition to regional training centres in Texas, Nevada and Los Angeles, PCI also has an additional training and development centre in Bahrain.
Across all of its centres, class sizes are limited to 12 trainees to ensure workers are given close expert supervision and tuition.
