Paragon Angola will work with oil firms and educational institutions to train more domestic engineers for careers in the oil and gas industry.
Working in collaboration with the University of Houston, University Agostinho Neto and a consortium of international oil firms, AMEC will look to capitalise on the country's stability to nurture its workforce and reduce its reliance on foreign labour.
Terrance Ivers, president of AMEC's Houston-based subsidiary AMEC Paragon, commented: "With Angola's capabilities and stability continuing to advance, we want to be among the first to organise an effort that will help the country become self-sustainable by enhancing the technical capabilities of its people."
He added that the international oil and gas industry needs to move beyond the minimum commitment to utilising domestic workforces and examine ways of maximising the human potential of states rich in energy resources.
Last year, AMEC Paragon landed the Engineering Excellence to the Extreme award from AVEVA in recognition of its Integrated Project Execution work process, which delivers large cost and time savings for diverse projects.
