Pembrokeshire has opened a new oil emergency control centre that will provide local students with the training and practical experience required by the oil and gas industry.
The first of its kind in Wales, the virtual control room uses industry-leading technology to simulate emergency conditions and scenarios that will familiarise students with the challenges of the oil and gas sector.
The Western Mail reports that deputy minister for science, innovation and skills Lesley Griffiths visited the school to witness the benefits of the new centre, commenting that it will attract new investment in Wales.
She added: "This proactive approach is encouraging as we need people with these skills to support the industries and technologies of tomorrow, to drive forward innovation in business [and] to stimulate research and development in universities."
The centre is also offer ten new scholarships worth £2,000 to encourage more students to enrol in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses.
