Petrofac has completed the design, refurbishment and installation of a state of the art oil and gas training centre in Syria.
Working with the Syrian government, the global oil training services firm intends to provide extensive competence-led courses for employees of the General Petroleum Corporation, the country's national oil firm.
Speaking at the official inauguration of the training centre, Petrofac's group chief executive Ayman Asfari said the facility, the first of its kind in the country, demonstrates the company's longstanding commitment to the oil and gas industry.
"Petrofac has been active in Syria since the early nineties through our engineering and construction business and we have grown up alongside the oil and gas industry here," he said.
The firm has also this month announced a new partnership with Shell and CO2 DeepStore to redevelop the Goldeneye field in the North Sea as a potential CO2 storage facility, as part of a UK-wide carbon capture and storage competition.
