Malaysian state oil and gas giant Petronas has offered more than 2,600 scholarship to youths throughout the country in line with its corporate social responsibility agenda, the company's general manager for east coast region has claimed.
Speaking to Bernama, Zulkifly Mohd Ismail explained that although the company's original remit was to manage and develop the country's oil and gas assets, this soon extended to providing training and development forums for local entrepreneurs, schoolchildren and workers looking to reap the benefits of the growing industry.
He said that since the company's inauguration 35 years, the company has helped 68 local entrepreneurs build businesses that now operate on an international scale, while 2,600 schoolchildren have also secured places on lucrative scholarship programmes.
In a separate interview the news agency earlier this year, Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim, chief executive of the Petrosains Discovery Centre, one of the company's many training and development hubs in the country, explained that Petronas has sought to develop an educational framework that will suit all learning styles.
