The Queensland Combined Emergency Services Academy (CESA) provides state-of-the-art facilities that provide trainees with real-world experience of emergencies ranging from oil refinery fires to natural disasters.
ABC Brisbane reports that the training centre features 'live classrooms' such as the vertical rescue tower, the rubble pit and the live-fire campus, as well as a new street-level training facility to improve coordinated emergency responses.
During their time at the academy, cadets will be trained to tackle oil refinery fires, evacuations, earthquakes and wildfires.
"We're proud that - within the southern hemisphere at least - we'd have to be the world's best in regards to what facilities we provide for training," said the academy's executive manager for specialist training command Superintendant Roger Bird.
Queensland's coal seam gas industry is undergoing rapid development thanks in large part to a new 340km pipeline to Gladstone, where the gas is processed into liquefied fuel.
