Russia's Union of Oil and Gas Producers (UOGP) has expressed an interest in establishing new joint partnerships to develop prospects in Turkmenistan.
According to Azerbaijan's Trend, the chairman of the UOGP Yuri Shafranik confirmed the union's willingness to develop "promising" assets in the country during a recent meeting with Turkmenistan's president Gurbangaly Berdimuhammadov.
The Turkmeni leader responded by expressing "gratitude for [the UOGP's] active assistance in the training of national personnel in the leading educational centres of Russia".
The two parties also discussed further opportunities to deliver further socioeconomic benefits to Turkmenistan through the development of oil and gas assets.
Mr Berdimuhammadov recognised that training, technology and advanced equipment would be vital to exploit the true potential of the country's oil and gas assets.
According to CIA data, Turkmenistan has benefitted from an overall rise in gas exports in recent years, although in the past corruption, poverty and a poor educational system have limited the impact of increased export on the overall population.
