Canada-based construction and engineering firm SNC Lavalin has announced that it has won a major new contract for an electricity interconnection project linking Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The announcement, made yesterday (June 18th), comes days after the company confirmed that it has won a 785 million (£668 million) contract from Sonatrach to build a new gas treatment complex in Algeria.
Riadh Ben Aissa, executive vice-president of SNC Lavalin, commented: "This contract reflects our proven ability to take on mega projects such as this one and I am extremely pleased that Sonatrach has entrusted us with carrying out the project."
The contract also covers the construction of a new facility that will pump carbon dioxide into aging gas fields to re-establish pressure and increase output. It is expected that the new facilities will produce and process around 3.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year.
In complement to its construction and engineering services, SNC Lavalin also maintains a training and sustainable development department that provides educational support to its clients in more than 100 countries.
