Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Company (SNEPCo) is continuing to invest in oil training and technology in the country's offshore sector.
Nigerian daily paper This Day reports that the company's managing director Chike Onyejekwe said it is paying particular attention to rigless interventions in the Bonga field, where the company first struck offshore oil in Nigeria.
He added that SNEPCo would also "help to encourage the transfer of deepwater technology to Nigeria by recruiting Nigerians and developing local capability in subsea and deepwater engineering."
The company has teamed up with the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and is currently hosting training sessions in the country's capital Lagos.
SUT chairman for sub-Saharan Africa Ross Agazuma said that it marks the first deepsea training programme to be developed in the region.
He added that the company is also in talks with Covenant University to develop a new master's level training programme to prepare students for skilled positions in the energy industry.
