The president of Azerbaijan's SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev has met with Sufyan Allaw, Syria's minister of oil and mineral resources and co-chair of the Syria-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission, to discuss cooperation in the energy sector.
Azeri news agency ABC reports that Mr Allaw expressed interest in developing ties between SOCAR and the Syrian Petroleum Company, with a particular focus on personnel training, equipment sharing and mutual exploration and production opportunities.
The Syrian state delegate also affirmed the country's readiness to sign a new agreement governing the sale and purchase of gas between the two countries.
ABC reports that Mr Abdullayex and Mr Allaw also touched upon potential gas transportation arrangements in furtherance of a new trade agreement.
Earlier this year, Ali Abbas, the general manager of the Syrian Petroleum Company, told Trend Capital that the company was on the verge of signing a new long-term contract to secure gas from Azeri fields.
