Scotland-based TUV NEL has announced the launch of a new water management training programme targeted at the Canadian oil and gas industry.
In a statement, the company claimed that efficient water management will be particularly crucial for the development of Canadian oil sands industry due to the high volume of fresh water used in the extraction process.
Alick MacGillivray, technical consultant at TUV NEL, explained that extraction of heavy oil from bitumen and oil sands requires large volumes of fresh and treated water.
"With a limited supply of fresh water resources and the need to expand oil extraction capacity for oil supply, there is a need for this kind of workshop," he added.
The training programme will focus particularly on land-based water management, as all of Alberta's water resources are sourced onshore.
TUV NEL employs over 15,000 employees and is present in more than 600 active oil and gas projects across the globe.
