Seven out of ten departing trainees from the remotely operated vehicles (ROV) training module at Fort William's Underwater Centre have been able to secure jobs in the oil and gas industry, the institute has announced.
The only ROV and diver training centre in the country, the facility found that the average timeframe between completion of the course and employment is three months.
Steve Ham, general manager at the Underwater Centre, commented: "Despite the recent economic downturn, the future for the ROV industry is predicted to be very successful. As the prices of oil and gas recover, the opportunities within this sector will in turn increase."
In other developments, the centre has also recently announced the addition of alternating current field measurement courses to its training portfolio, allowing students to learn non-destructive methods of assessing the integrity of subsea structures.
The course is offered to all inspection engineers, as well as divers and other offshore workers.
