Scotland's leading energy training industry helps to boost the economy by around £4 billion in inward investment, according to the International Energy Skills and Training Alliance (IESTA).
The group has carried out research showing that despite declines in UK North Sea exploration and production, the Scottish industry can continue to attract investment from emerging oil-producing nations in need of comprehensive training support.
Neil Harkin, chairman of IESTA, explained: "This research confirms that opportunities for market growth are increasing, particularly as remote areas where harsh environment working continued to grow is vital to meeting rising global energy demand."
The group identified particularly strong potential for growth in Australia, which is enjoying an energy boom driven by the development of offshore natural gas fields.
UK-based BG Group last month signed a landmark deal with China National Offshore Oil Corp to deliver $60 billion worth of liquefied natural gas as part of a long-term export agreement.
