Leading remotely operated vehicles (ROV) services group SeaTrepid has inaugurated a new training centre in Louisiana to serve the oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).
Situated in the town of Robert, the new training facilities feature leading edge computer-based simulation training, in addition to practical electronics, fibre optics and hydraulics workshops.
Energy Current reports that the oil and gas training centre also features an in-ground test pool to put the ROVs and trainees through their paces.
"Subsea robotic intervention is the future in this business. The training function is crucial to the success of any robotic field operations," said Bob Christ, SeaTrepid's president and founder.
He added that the training facilities will allow the company to provide a continual supply of highly skilled field technicians to support growth in the oil and gas industry for years to come.
The centre will also serve SeaTrepid's clients in governmental and scientific communities.
