Virtualised environment software plays a key role in crisis simulation as part of oil and natural gas training courses, Second Places has claimed.
The UK-based developer has created a simulated offshore environment to provide workers with a sandbox in which they can utilise their skills to handle crises and hazards on the virtual rig.
Linuxinsider.com notes that by running training and development programmes in a virtual environment, oil and gas operators can bring together workforces from around the world in real time.
"There can be an offshore installation manager sitting in his office in Aberdeen, three crew in Kazakhstan and 40 others all over the US and they don't have to travel to do this collaboration," explained Mark Duffy, managing director of Second Places.
Elsewhere, the group notes that one of the key benefits of using the simulated training and development environment is that workers can benefit from experiential learning through role play scenarios.
