Shell Qatar has won an award for its safety procedures, it has emerged.
After the Gulf Times revealed the body had received the Shell CEO Award, chairman of Shell Qatar Andrew Brown told the publication that the firm had many safety training programmes in operation.
He said: "Our training facility can deliver some 2,700 courses every single day to our workers and supervisors."
Mr Brown commented that Shell Qatar was also running leadership training programmes and they were being offered to 5,000 supervisors at the Pearl GTL site in a "groundbreaking" approach to safety.
He said that safety is a "key priority" for the company as it cannot operate if it is not safe and that every day the company looks to ensure the security of its 35,000 workers.
Earlier this year, Shell opened the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre in the country where 28 engineers and scientists were employed to look into upstream technologies, which could interest those training for such positions.
