A charity in the north-east of England is set to invest millions of pounds over the next few years in providing training for students and workers looking to develop careers within the oil and gas industry.
Under the plans put forward by Middlesbrough-based The TTE Technical Training Group, a number of apprenticeships are to be offered to youngsters from the region, with support to come from both businesses operating within the sector as well as the Learning and Skills Council.
Through the new funding received from the industry, the charity has also confirmed that it will be able to offer process-specific training at its new Wilton International Site, while apprentices will also be encouraged to develop on-site skills and experience.
TTE managing director Keith Hunter noted: "This investment will particularly focus on the fast-developing and important oil and gas, steel and process industries.
"All of which have significantly increased the number of apprentices they sponsor with us over the past year as we strive to supply a safe, competent and well-trained workforce for the future."
Prior to gaining its independence and charity status in 1999, TTE operated as a joint venture between ICI and British Steel with the aim of producing a new generation of industrial professionals.
