Ghana's Takoradi Polytechnic has announced that it will introduce a new aircraft maintenance training course by the end of the year, working with international partners.
The institute will collaborate with the Aircraft Maintenance Training Institute and Afrimeric Engineering International Cincinnati to deliver the new training programme, it was announced yesterday (September 28th).
Professor Daniel Nyarko, rector of the academic facility, commented: "The programme, which will begin with a maximum of 50 students, is aimed at training aircraft technicians to maintain planes that will be coming to the Western Region when the exploitation of oil and gas begins."
Irish oil and gas major Tullow, a major stakeholder in several Ghanaian plays, is set to achieve first oil in the Jubilee field in November or December this year.
Professor Nyarko added that, recognising the need to mobilise Ghana's native workforce quickly, the first students will graduate from the training programme six months after admission.
