The governor of Texas Rick Perry has announced plans to establish the Gulf Project, which will pool together the brightest minds of the oil and gas industry to ensure that training and technology are of the very highest standard.
According to the Associated Press, Mr Perry claimed the organisation will work to both improve existing technologies and training standards, but also to prepare the oil and gas industry for the future.
He added that it is natural that Texas should take the lead in the effort to secure new sources of energy.
"We are perfectly suited to lead the effort into improving safety and reliability in our continued quest for new and better sources of energy," he explained.
The group will also aim to prevent disasters future disasters such as the Deepwater Horizon spill on April 20th, which was provisionally capped earlier this month and is now being tested extensively for any signs of leakage.
