The web-based Training Gateway hosted by York University has welcomed its 1,000th member as Hertfordshire University joins the network.
An extensive training and development forum launched six months ago, the Training Gateway has already distributed more than 300 tenders for training in sectors including oil exploration engineering, air traffic controllers and upper level public sector managers.
Amanda Selvaratnam, director of the Training Gateway, commented: "To reach this milestone in such a short time is a fantastic achievement. It demonstrates that The Training Gateway is providing a valuable and much-needed service both to the higher education sector and the business community."
Meanwhile, Lynne Stevens, business development co-ordinator at Hertfordshire University said that being proactive in engaging with the private sector to extend training opportunities is a key part of the institution's objectives.
In October, the Training Gateway quoted UKCES chief executive Chris Humphries as saying that during this difficult economic period, it is vital that businesses do not cut back on training budgets as they could soon find themselves imperiled by doing so.
