Training and development within the oil industry is central to the desires of the so-called Generation Y employees who are currently at the beginning of their careers, a claim suggests.
Communications director at Oil & Gas UK Trisha O'Reilly spoke ahead of this year's Next Generation conference, which is to take place in Aberdeen on April 22nd.
She said: "The motivations and expectations of Generation Y are hugely different to those of young professionals starting their careers 20 or 30 years ago. It is important that today's leaders hear and consider what attracts these skilled people to our sector."
Ensuring such individuals receive the training and development they feel they need will help to create a working environment where the industry's future leaders will be able to perform optimally, Ms O'Reilly said.
It could also help to bring a sustainable future for the UK continental shelf, the organisation notes.
And, as the industry's workforce ages, ensuring the training needs of younger employees is met will become increasingly important, Raj Mehta from the Shulich School of Engineering told the Calgary Herald.
