Tullow, an oil and exploration company, has announced the discovery of an oil well in Uganda.
It was discovered at the Kigogole-1 exploration well located in the Butiaba region of Uganda.
Drilled to a depth of 616 metres, it encountered two oil zones, while moveable light sweet oil in reservoirs was also found at around 400 metres.
Kigogole is the fifth successive find for Tullow in the last five months in the area.
Chief executive officer of Tullow Oil Aidan Heavey said: "This discovery reinforces the high potential of this area and in particular the Victoria Nile delta play."
Adjacent prospects will now be tested during the 2009 Butiaba drilling campaign, following the confirmation of quality reservoirs and seals in the region.
Drilling has currently been suspended at Kigogole-1 until operations have been completed.
In related news, the Ugandan government has been asked to publish the production sharing agreements they made with oil exploration companies.
The details have never been released to the public.
