Irish upstream oil company Tullow has sent a 14-member delegation from Ghana to Scotland in order to undertake capacity training as it prepares to bring the African country's first wells on stream.
Ghana News Agency reports that the team, led by General Charles Mankatah, chairman of the National Security Council for Oil and Gas, will scrutinise how the Scottish oil and gas industry prepares for offshore emergencies.
The delegation has so far visited the Maritime and Aeronautical Rescue and Co-ordination Centres in Aberdeen, the Grampian Police and Fire Control Rooms, and the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, among other institutions.
Gayheart Mensah, communications manager of Tullow Ghana, commented: "Tullow's sponsorship of the trip shows the level of commitment of the company to health, safety and emergency response in Ghana."
While its hugely successful drilling campaign continues, the company plans to bring the first wells in the Jubilee field on stream in the second half of 2010.
