The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) has attracted one of the world's most experienced offshore engineers to head up its new training and development programme for the oil and gas industry.
Angus Jamieson, an expert in oil technology services, will help the institution develop new leading-edge training and research facilities and will teach at the university as a visiting professor.
The new facilities will include 3D visualisation suites, marine surveillance orientation, offshore engineering and mathematics courses to prepare students for diverse career trajectories within the oil and gas industry.
"I believe a university will be a huge asset to the region, attracting young people here for higher education rather than losing them to other areas when they leave school," said Mr Jamieson.
The UHI comprises a network of leading institutions and research facilities across Scotland specialising in an array of disciplines including marine technology and sustainable development.
