Opito - the Oil and Gas Academy - has added the Petroleum Open Learning training module to its portfolio of flexible learning courses.

The new training and development programme is an entry-level course designed to provide people from all backgrounds with an opportunity to excel in the oil and gas industry.

Richard Bain, the academy's technical sales manager, said that the provision of training plays a vital role in ensuring that the UK remains competitive on the global stage.

"We have responded to the need for more electrical engineering specialists with this tailored course, which will equip participants with industry-ready skills they can take out into the workplace," he added.

Opito has also this month launched an innovative educational programme for schoolchildren in Aberdeen, giving them a taste of the oil and gas industry coal face with the help of Aberdeen College.
