The University of Aberdeen (UoA) has unveiled a new MSc degree programme to help tackle a critical skills shortfall facing the UK offshore sector.
A part-time, distance learning course utilising the very latest in training simulation technology, the MSc in Oil and Gas Structural Engineering has been developed in partnership with fellow Aberdeen-based groups Atkins, Production Services Network and Wood Group Engineering.
Half of the modules offered will be delivered by industry professionals and the other half by academics attached to the university.
"By drawing expertise from both industry and academia, the course will equip the students with a strong set of industry relevant skills encompassing new technologies and developments within the sector," insisted Dr Paul Davidson, of the UoA's School of Engineering.
He added that the course has been designed to supply a fresh, replenishable talent pool that is capable of servicing both current and future industry demands.
