The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) has announced the expansion of its energy management courses after a popular and successful trial run.
UTPB Business dean Jack Ladd said that there was an immediate need to serve the oil and gas sector in west Texas with highly trained managers.
"I think energy is one of the major domestic problems we face in the United States and one of the major national security problems we face. I think we should help address that," he said.
The university began running oil and gas training courses last summer, with more rolled out this autumn.
Courses will run through every 18 months, allowing students to gain a Bachelor's degree with a focus in energy training.
Earlier this year, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board celebrated the UTPB as providing the best local opportunities for graduates, with 75 per cent either getting a job or moving into a graduate training and development programme in the area.
