The long-troubled Nigerian state of the Niger Delta will find new support from the Vision 20 policy action plan, which contains new pledges for education and training in the region.
The Niger Delta region is the hub of Nigeria's oil and gas industry and in recent months progress has been made in cutting out hostile rebel activity in return for oil and gas training.
Writing for Nigeria's Daily Independent, commentator Innocent Dibia notes that the new Vision 20 plan, which sets out a roadmap for education through to 2020, will deliver real benefits to locals in the region by encouraging bright Nigerians back into teaching and young workers back into education.
Mr Dibia noted that Nigeria's education system has suffered from a brain drain due to poor pay and conditions, but the new Vision 20 programme will allow for an inflow of talent back into the educational sector.
