Ghana's Western Offshore Management and Consultancy Services (WOMCAS) has trained 120 students to prepare for work in the oil and gas industry.
Working with the Ahanta Western District Assembly, the organisation provided foundational training in areas such as offshore duties, signals, crane operating and safety measures.
The Ghanaian Chronicle reports that the oil and gas training course lasted ten months and was concluded at a graduation ceremony held last week and led by the director of WOMCAS Alhaji Belem Braimah.
Addressing the students, Mr Braimah commented: "I want to thank and congratulate you for your tenacity of purpose for taking this initiative to acquaint and position yourselves for employment on the oil fields."
Ghana is expected to achieve first oil in the final quarter of 2010, with a statement from Tullow this morning (August 25th) confirming that the first well is likely to come on stream in late November or December.
