The Wintech Professional Institute (WPI) has announced that it will be offering new oil and gas training courses to inspire young workers to embark on a career in Ghana's burgeoning energy industry.
Peace FM reports that the institute has stressed the particular importance of training new oil and gas technicians in order to promote economic prosperity among Ghanaians.
Kingsley Koranteng Aseidu, the West African representative for City and Guilds, explained that skilled manual workers will provide the backbone for the energy industry, and as such Ghana needs to ensure its workforce has the technical capacity to compete for these jobs.
He added that the government is currently investing in higher education "without paying attention to the training of technicians to take charge of our industries".
Oil and gas training is becoming an increasingly pertinent topic in Ghana as the country prepares to bring its offshore energy fields on-stream by the end of the year.
