The Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism from The Scottish Parliament today confirmed his participation in the Getenergy Ministerial Summit on Education and Training for the Oil and Gas industry. The Summit marks the official opening of the 4th Global Education and Training event for the upstream industry and will see Energy Ministers and National Oil/Gas Company CEO’s from some 16 countries meet and discuss potential co-operation on skills for the energy industry.
Other Ministers considering invitations include Ministers of Oil from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Venezuela, UAE, India and China. The Summit will mark an important development in Getenergy’s global role as a facilitator between the providers of education and training and companies who explore and produce oil and gas.
Malcolm Wicks MP, UK Minister for Energy, is keen to see greater co-operation between countries with oil/gas reserves on issues of education and skills. “My Department has long promoted stronger links between education and industry of all kinds and we believe this relationship lies at the heart of creating stronger, more effective businesses particularly in knowledge-based sectors of which energy is a vital part.’
Mr Wicks MP is expected to chair the Summit meeting at Getenergy. The meeting will be held at the Business Design Centre, Islington on the 26th March 2008.
