An introduction to our country focused events
Getenergy is The Global Education and Training marketplace for the Oil and Gas Industry. Created in 2004, we are an independent organisation that brings together the providers of education and training (universities, colleges and private providers) with national and international upstream oil and gas companies, governments and service providers. We are a specialist organisation which is entirely focused on the links between education provision and the needs of the oil and gas industry.
For the past seven years Getenergy has been bringing together the oil and gas industry with providers of education and training through our annual global event: Getenergy: Exploration and Production. Our clients tell us that this marketplace is a key part of the solution to the education and training challenge facing the global hydrocarbon business. Getenergy’s role is to facilitate and inform those gatherings and to provide vital support and information to the process. Getenergy’s annual event is unique, in that it is the only place where oil and gas companies can meet and build partnerships with education and training providers from all over the world.
National Oil Companies, who control 95% of the world’s oil and gas reserves are, by their nature, owned by governments. Those governments, without exception, want to increase the ‘national content’ element of projects undertaken. A critical element of this is the employment of local people in technician, engineering and management roles. This, in turn, requires significant investment in building new training facilities and investing in a country’s own educational infrastructure.
Getenergy provides ‘best in class’ examples of how to make such investments work. Our events include national institutions, universities and technical training facilities many of whom have never attended an oil/gas industry exhibition in the past. It also allows international oil companies to demonstrate their ‘value added offering’ in front of existing or potential National Oil Company partners.
In response to the fast changing oil/gas industry and the numerous requests from the governments and NOCs who have attended our global events, Getenergy started running bespoke, country focused meetings on education and training of specific national markets.
These national events operate under the heading ‘Getenergy For…’ followed by the name of the country or region and take place over two days in the country in question. The aim is to address and meet the skills requirements of the national energy industry as identified by those within the country - by the Ministries and the National Oil Company. Although varying from country to country, the general impact and results of the meetings will be:
• Effective and where possible, collaborative learning programmes and systems for all aspects of the energy industry at every level for technicians, engineers, managers, scientists, and industry leaders.
• Improved industry/education relationships between energy companies and universities, colleges, institutes, service providers, and specialist training companies.
• National and international partnerships to design and deliver new and relevant curricula, teaching methodologies, and subject disciplines for oil companies and their suppliers.
• International standards, qualifications, and competencies for the industry and those who provide it with education, training, and learning.
• A regular annual meeting place for those whose job role closely involves workforce development, training, education links and, in some cases, HR and New Business.
Based on the national requirements of industry, the Learning Arena exhibition will be composed of 35 – 40 training providers, including national and internationally active universities, colleges, institutes and private providers, along with International Oil Companies and their learning partners.
National and International leading figures within the energy industry and academia will be part of the programme and topics will feature:
1. Oil and Gas requirements in education and training for next 5years
2. Existing education and training provision and experience in the industry
3. How the national market works
4. Who’s Who in the national oil and gas industry and how does training planning currently operate.
5. Examples of international good practice and innovation in education and training
Getenergy undertakes research on how the national market in education and training for oil and gas operates in that country to enable interested parties to access information and see how best it can meet the education and training needs of the market. The Getenergy Bridge market intelligence website (www.getenergybridge.com) will provide a forum to share ideas and good practice and for the transfer of knowledge between national governments and ministries and those who supply them with education and training.
The event are attended by:
- NOCs, relevant government bodies including those from education and energy
- National education and training providers
- Active and prospective IOCs and foreign NOCs
- Active and prospective international education and training providers
- Active and prospective service companies
- Quality awarding and accreditation bodies
In 2009 Getenergy ran the following country/region specific events in line with its new business plan:
Getenergy For Iraq – October – in partnership with the Ministry of Oil
Getenergy For the GCC – November – in partnership with Ministry of Energy
Getenergy for Libya – December – In partnership with NOC Libya.
For 2010 we plan to repeat each of the events above in their respective months and we will be adding the following National Events to the programme:
Getenergy for Russia & CIS – May – In partnership with Ministry of Energy
Getenergy for Western Africa, Ghana – in partnership with GNPC and Ministry
Each of these events will deal with current issues central to the development of an efficient and skilled national oil/gas workforce, as identified by NOCs and Government. Through interactive workshops, case study examples and exchanges, the programme will seek to address the above issues and produce new partnerships between national and international training and education providers.
The programme will be run alongside the Learning Arena of 35 - 40 exhibitor stands, made up of national and international providers of education and training; including universities, colleges, institutes and private providers, along with IOCs and their learning partners. The composition of the Learning Arena will be based on the Ministry’s/NOC’s specification and on whom they would like to see exhibiting at the event, it will aim to:
• Demonstrate to NOCs and IOCs the latest in education and training for the energy industry
• Provide an opportunity for training providers to showcase their latest programmes, courses and learning technologies
• Enabling valuable business to happen between oil companies and training bodies
• Share ideas and transfer knowledge
• Promote national and international collaboration to design and deliver new and relevant curricula, teaching methodologies, and subject disciplines for the industry
• Improve relationship of national universities with international universities and colleges
Getenergy works closely with NOCs and governments to address the current skills shortage in the energy industry and help to deliver the solution to the education and training challenges.
Our aim in every case is to build an event which is absolutely relevant and fit-for-purpose, and to advance the discussion towards clear objectives defined by NOC and government. Getenergy is flexible and will adopt an intelligent approach to all its activities, ensuring that events are used as a vehicle to advance the agenda towards a solution and providing allied services that are genuinely useful to people in industry.
